Wapiti Bulls

Two bull deer engage in a passionate battle in the tall forest grass as a gathering of does look on from afar. The movement and action of the painting bring the scene to life. Black Bear Mother and Cubs Raid a Picnic

A truly classic scene from any national park public service announcement. A large black bear and her two cubs feast greedily on the buffet so generously and unintentionally brought before them by the human bystanders. Sung Kim is a Korean born artist who is known for the realism portrayed in his landscape pieces. Many of his paintings are of rolling country hills or more urban cobblestone promenades. Most of his work looks to be set in Italy or France, although one cannot overlook his wondrous beach scenes.

The simple and whimsical shapes he often uses lend to a pure sort of simplicity that neither bores the onlooker nor distracts them from the point at hand. He is by no means limited to the sun and sand, however, Paul has quite a way with owls and has even dabbled in more abstract styles.

Jennifer Goldberger’s artwork runs the gambit of styles. One of her more popular subjects tends to be flowers, where she shows that not only is she talented in the art of realism but also abstract and impressionistic styles.

Ryan Fowler

Do you love your dog? Because Ryan Fowler sure loves his. They are the main subject of his paintings. Black and yellow labs adorn the canvas in an almost cartoonish style. Paul Brent is very clearly a talented artist. His legacy began over forty years ago and will surely continue on for a long time. His work with watercolors is fun, innovative and expansive. A thick off white border encases a vintage, almost worn looking, black background.  Two martini glasses clink together enticingly. The swirling contents and fruity garnishes begging to be consumed with good friends. “Cheers!” is the caption below and it could not be more fitting. How could you not want to celebrate something with a good friend after seeing this print? It would hang perfectly at a home bar, or even a kitchen.

Symposium by Cathe Hendrick is a special order for a customer with a very large wall to fill.  The art is a 90″ x 54″ stretched canvas with a Gallery One black float frame.  Our talented framers did a fabulous job stretching and framing this huge Canvas Giclee. Their attention to detail made this canvas extraordinary!

For those not familiar with floater frames, they are mounted to the back of the stretched canvas. The canvas sits inside the frame and the frame is a box around the canvas. From the front, you see the top edge of the frame. A float frame gives the canvas a sleek, finished look and gives the illusion of the canvas floating within the frame. Here’s a couple of images to help you visualize the look.

This historic collection features over 60 years of “Pepper… and Salt” cartoons published in the Wall Street Journal.  Read all about the interesting history behind the time honored cartoon.

The first daily “Pepper…and Salt” cartoon appeared on June 6, 1950.

While Journal editor and resident curmudgeon William Henry Grimes was away in Europe, other editors, with the blessing of the CEO, took it upon themselves to start publishing a daily cartoon as part of an overall redesign of the editorial page.

Mr. Grimes returned from his Grand Tour in a fury, complaining about the “picture page.” But the readers loved it, and the cartoon remains a favorite with Journal readers today. It appears under the heading “Pepper … and Salt”, a logo first used in the paper in 1915 as a header for timely quotes and quips drawn from other papers.

The cartoon feature was the brainchild of a student named Charles Preston, who worked his way through Columbia University in the late 1940s writing gags for cartoonists and radio shows and supplying jokes to punch up Broadway plays. In 1950, he approached The Wall Street Journal with the idea of running a daily cartoon on business themes in the paper’s editorial pages. More than a half century later, Mr. Preston is still the editor of “Pepper…and Salt”.

“When editorial page editor Vermont Royster assigned me to edit the “Pepper…and Salt” column,” Mr. Preston says, “he observed that there was more than enough earnest gravity on the editorial page. My mission was to provide a smattering of condiment for the weighty discourse in the adjacent columns.”

From the beginning, “Pepper…and Salt” has poked fun at the world of business. Along the way, the cartoons have provided a timely chronicle of more than fifty years of American business and social history.

“Pepper … and Salt” is unique among newspaper cartoons in that it isn’t drawn by one cartoonist. Charles Preston receives about 1,000 submissions a week for three available slots, though a stable of thirty or so provides most of the cartoons.

Each cartoon is available as a Giclee print or a Canvas Giclee. There is something for everyone with over 200 works to choose from covering a variety of subjects such as golf, business, politics, family life, and so on. All cartoons are available in sizes ranging from 12″ x 12″ to 40″x 40″ on paper and up to 51″ x 51″ on canvas.
